This time, the interloping liberal Northerner is white, the tough Southern know-it-all cop is black. In a way, Connery's Armstrong and Fishburne's Brown are reminiscent of Sidney Poitier's Virgil Tibbs and Rod Steiger's Gillespie in 1967's "In the Heat of the Night"-with a switch. These three almost make the movie worthwhile. Brightest of all (if you don't count Ed Harris) are Connery and Fishburne.
